In testing seasonal conditions across much of the region, Detpa Grove White Suffolk has wrapped up its 13th Bi-Annual Mated Ewe Sale with a strong clearance and valuable support from both new and returning clients.
Held on Tuesday, April 8 at the Detpa Grove Sale Shed and interfaced with AuctionsPlus, the sale presented 100 specially selected ewes, showcasing elite White Suffolk genetics backed by Lambplan data, DNA analysis, and pedigree depth.
Stud principal David Pipkorn described the result as a pleasing outcome given the widespread seasonal challenges.
“In very difficult seasonal conditions across the region we were really pleased with the support received,” he said.
The sale topped at $2,700, with 15 ewes attracting spirited competition to sell between $1,000 and $2,000.
The balance of the offering met a more subdued market, but with a modest $600 reserve, the majority were either snapped up immediately or sold within 24 hours of the auction.
Volume buyer on the day was Alan Scott, Valley Vista Stud, NSW, who purchased 18 ewes to add to his October purchases that helped establish this new White Suffolk stud.
The top-priced ewe, Lot 77, a proven NOBLE daughter of outstanding scale, balance and class, was sold in lamb with multiples to Felix 211239. Having previously bred a stud sire via ET, she was successfully bought by Will Milroy, Range View Stud, TAS.
Also breaking the $2,000 mark was Lot 16, a long, heavy-boned and classy ewe by Ella Matta 190004, from a PARAGON dam. In lamb to 240174, a full brother to Detpa Grove’s top-priced ram last year, she now joins the flock of Mark Schmidt, VIC.
“It was certainly an opportunity to reward new and astute return buyers with top genetics at bargain prices’ said Mr Pipkorn.
With Mated Ewe Sale progeny from past years selling up to $22,000, all eyes will be on this year’s draft to see how their genetics perform in new studs across Australia.
